THE 3RD INTERNATIONAL MODERN ARNIS FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES (IMAFP) NATIONAL TOURNAMENT 2008

On the first weekend of December, Dec. 6 and 7, 2008, the International Modern Arnis Federation of the Philippines (IMAFP) held its 3rd Open National Sports Arnis Tournament. Dubbed Arnis--Pambansang Palakasan and co-sponsored by Manila Mayor Alfredo S. Lim, it was held at the San Andres Complex in the heart of Manila, Philippines. The IMAFP tournament officials were headed by guro Francis Nagen, Tournament Director, and Senior Master Godofredo Fajardo, Program Director. They were assisted by several IMAFP masters and instructors.

Over forty (40) arnis schools, clubs and organizations from all over the country - Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao - participated and sent their best fighters. Special trophies were donated and awarded by Mayor Alfredo S. Lim of the City of Manila in coordination with Col. Corrado Francisco, consultant with the Office of the Mayor, and the Manila Sports Council (MASCO) headed by Nino de la Cruz.

Filipino Fighting Arts Int’l (FFAI) - Pandacan under Guro Cocoy Oyales won the over-all championship for the kids’ division, FFAI-EARIST under Guro Jimson Dearos won the over-all championship in the senior division, while MATCOP won the over-all championship for the junior division. The results of the individual matches are posted towards the end of this article.

IMAFP offers its heartfelt congratulations to the winners and participants, as well as its profound thanks to the tournament officials, numerous supporters and sponsors of this event, especially Mayor Alfredo S. Lim and various officials and organizations of the City of Manila.
